Voting Question: VW New Beetle speedometer is on the fritz?

I’m having an issue with my speedometer on my 2000 VW New Beetle 2.0, for about a month now. My speedomotofer needle will sometimes get bouncy and jump back and forth around my actual speed, sometimes it’ll sit at zero and bounces up to 25mph every other second (when I’m going 65mph), I also caught the speedo just recently acting as if it was an RPM reader, it’s weird. This happens only once in a while, and isn’t constant (My speedo works just fine, most of the time). My gas needle and RPM reader are not effected by this, they both work fine when the speedo is freaking out. I’m guessing it’s just my speed sensor going out? Could it be something else?
