Open Question: Is it difficult to install a radio in a vw beetle, 1971?

My Beetle had an after market radio under the dash but I want to install one in the correct location in the dash. I know I need to cut the opening but how do I get in there to mount the radio bracket and do I need any framing around the cut out in the dash besides that which came with the radio or will everything be behind my cut out?
